This year Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark · Zucker Berger announced that the company name would be changed to “Meta” and said he wanted to make Facebook a meta-universe company and make the concept of the “meta-universe” widely known.
In fact, many industry giants in the field have started to develop the meta-universe field vigorously, and among the sports brands Nike and adidas have started to get involved in the past two years.
Yesterday Nike officially announced the acquisition of virtual sneaker and fashion brand RTFKT Studios, completing a major step into the metaverse.
According to the official image released by Nike, the RTFKT Studios logo is similar to that of Nike, Jordan, and the Jordanian brand.
The RTFKT Studios logo is seen alongside Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse, seemingly representing RTFKT Studios as a vital part of the Nike group.
As a virtual fashion brand that started out by creating virtual sneakers, RTFKT Studios is set to launch in January 2020. RTFKT Studios was only officially launched in January 2020 and has grown like crazy in less than two years. Earlier this year, the brand’s virtual sneakers sold over 600 pairs in seven minutes, totaling over $3.1 million.
At the same time, RTFKT has received support and recognition from some of the biggest names in the industry. It has worked with Jeff Staple and Takashi Murakami.
Nike’s acquisition of RTFKT Studios will result in a virtual sneaker product.
